Proven solutions... in the privacy of your own home... We know that there may be several different reasons why a family might prefer to have therapy conducted in the privacy and comfort of their own home... and there are many reasons why it is very effective. Our in-home services provide therapy to the teenager in their home environment while including the family every step of the way. Our clinicians work to strengthen the family bond and provide solutions that last for life.
Odyssey House of Utah's Adolescent In-Home Treatment is a 12 week program which combines substance abuse treatment with family therapy and parenting skills building. This program applies Motivational Enhancement Therapy, the Parenting with Love and Logic principles, Systems theory, and Structural and Multidimensional Family Therapy practices to improve family communication and resolve conflicts, while teaching coping and substance refusal skills to the adolescent.
The 90 minute therapy sessions will occur weekly, for 12 weeks. They will take place in the home to observe the family in their natural environment, provide more privacy, and decrease resistance and transportation challenges that are often a deterrent to office therapy. The family will have a therapist who is available to provide support throughout the week. They will receive treatment packets including in-session exercises and homework. Parents will also receive a copy of Parenting Teens with Love and Logic by Cline and Fay, as it provides the framework for the family's discussion about communication and boundaries.
At the end of the 12 week program, there may be an opportunity to continue in-home services, transition to another treatment service, or terminate services, depending on clinical assessment of the needs and resources of the family.
