Shout your praise! nominatE a peer for the odyssey house cornerstone award today!
click here to nominate1. I am a new employee in the Downtown Administration location, and have had the benefit of observing Nichole throughout her day, and the wide variety of tasks she coordinates. Chief among them seems to be acting as the official "Gatekeeper" for this location.
We have a wide variety of visitors, not all of which necessarily belong here....to watch Nichole treat each interaction with such care is not something I was expecting to see. Trying to put myself in her role, I know it would be difficult for me to maintain a consistent, friendly, welcoming greeting to each and every person who visits our location, but Nichole is able to do that without deviation. You could record her in action, and to hear the words she uses, and more importantly the tone and inflection she delivers them with, you would not be able to tell any difference between an interaction on Monday morning and one on Friday afternoon. She is AMAZINGLY consistent in her greeting to everyone, and as the "face of Odyssey" for all who visit our Downtown Administration location, is yet another example of why I am proud to share where I work with others.
Knowing she is the personification of Odyssey House as you enter our doors, it is difficult to determine if their is another (non Client facing) role that makes as much of an impact as her role as Receptionist does. I am grateful that she is in this role, she does it FAR BETTER than I could ever do.
I have been a proud part of the Odyssey House organization for precisely two weeks as of today. Due to her desk's physical location being so close to mine, and my status as a "new hire" employee, I have peppered poor Nichole with what must seem like a never ending string of basic questions, most of which are related to processes she has absolutely no ownership of, or involvement with. Nichole has been a key part of me being able to assume this role as smoothly as possible. If Nichole was able to answer a question herself, she has, regardless of whether or not it is "her process". She has greeted me with a smile and an enthusiastic "Good morning!" every day, just like I hear her greet EVERYONE that visits our location. You can't determine if she just handled something with high emotion, or if she has just had the most friendly of interactions, she greets everyone warmly and professionally, which makes a lasting and very positive impression on everyone who comes to the Downtown Administration facility.
I remember Nichole from the time I came to interview, and she made me feel welcome and appreciated, even though I was "just interviewing". That fact alone was undoubtedly one of the initial reasons I was so excited to join Odyssey House. She is a live example of how we should greet people when we are representing Odyssey House! Knowing that you don't get a second chance to make a first impression, it is hard to think of someone else that could "watch the front door" in a manner equal to, let alone better than Nichole. She does all of her normal work, yet does not hesitate to stop her work to assist a colleague, even though it may not be in her job description. She is not a member of the IT staff, but to have her assistance getting connected to the correct printer you would never know it. She is not a member of our HR team, yet to oversee her ACTIVELY listen to a peer talk about a challenge they are facing, without interrupting or "piling on" with her own examples of frustrations she faces, you would never know she isn't on our Human Resources team. I don't believe she is a member of our Facility Maintenance team, but to watch her fill any idle time by picking up a mess left by someone, or see her emptying trash cans, you would never know it.
My nomination of her isn't just a case of her exceeding expectations because I am so new, and therefore didn't have a defined set of expectations on Day 1.....my expectations are evolving on a daily basis, and Nichole's delivery of whatever is needed has evolved with my expectations. Starting any new job can be daunting, because there are so many procedural requirements that have to take place, and systems you need to be given access to. The fact that we are a healthcare provider means even more stringent regulation than the average industry. When you are starting in a new role, having so many more questions than answers, and adding to the list of questions every day, to have a colleague like Nichole can literally make the difference between a smooth and efficient transition into the role, and one that is stopped and restarted, sometimes taking three steps forward and two steps back. Many people have helped to ensure I can be effective in my new role with Odyssey as quickly as possible, so this isn't a "default nomination" because there were no other contenders. Many companies talk about wanting to be a second family for their employees. This is the first company I have personally worked for that has actually been able to execute this desire (and I am SUPER old), and Nichole is a key part of why this has so quickly become my "second family". Regardless of whether she is selected as the winner of this Award for December, she DEFINITELY deserves to be recognized for going above and beyond her job description, specifically as it relates to new employees being welcomed to and RETAINED BY Odyssey House!
My sincere thanks to Nichole for all she has done for me personally to ensure my eventual and ongoing success as a member of the Odyssey House family!!!!
2. Nichole is always so incredibly kind and eager to help at the front desk at administration. She is well versed in her position and all things Odyssey related. She is willing to help when I come in even when she's doing a ton of other things. I'm constantly impressed with her work ethic and kindness.
Tracie is an amazing supervisor. She takes her job to heart, and really cares about her staff and the clients. Tracie has a way of relating to the clients because she genuinely cares about their well being. This applies to her staff as well. Tracie is not afraid to get in the mix and help out where ever she is needed. She is someone that is easy to confide to, and never judges someone because of something they are dealing with. This job would definitely not be the same, or as enjoyable with someone else as the supervisor.
I witnessed Chet talking a client down out of an erratic episode with lack of emotional regulation with extreme tact and care while explaining the predicament the client was facing leading to the client staying in the program. The care and concern he showed was impeccable!! Over the last year or more I've witnessed his own personal growth as a peer support and am excited for what his future holds for him. I'm so proud to have him on our team and am looking forward to what the future holds for his life.
1. Meki has been consistently taking great shift notes and communicates well with the daytime staff. I am grateful to her for always asking questions, being open to learn, and being a great support to our clients. I don't personally get much interaction with her, but I consistently see how hard she is working and think she is doing great!
2. Margaret has such wonderful energy and really cares for the clients . Her documentation is so thorough. She has gone above and beyond with every task she takes part in.
Vania is always willing to sit down with the clients when they are struggling and goes out of her way to engage with clients. She consistently helps the clients to deescalate and helps them to think through their decisions. She has talked many clients out of leaving and makes a positive impact on the house both for the clients and for staff.

1. Ellyn has been going 'above and beyond' the 'above and beyond' she already works by! She has been making ongoing efforts to make a difference, in regard to her already amazing way that she thinks of everyone, staff and clients, all the time. Ellyn does so much more than we even realize. She works all the time even when she is 'off'. She cares deeply for our clients and for their well-being, in addition to caring deeply about all of the staff here at WMH, whether we are directly under her or not. She is humble and kind and has made ongoing efforts to make sure the clients have what they need, and BEYOND that even; she makes ongoing efforts to make sure we as staff in addition to our clients, feel safe and seen and heard. Our house is amazing because Ellyn is consistently doing everything she can here during the day and behind the scenes to make sure staff and clients are doing ok. I personally am so grateful to be able to work with her and know her, because she is one of the most genuinely caring humans I have met in a long time. She is continually trying to do better and be better without asking for or expecting anything in return; and it is noticeable and appreciated. Our house would not be the same if Ellyn was not here and I hope she gets the recognition she so deeply deserves. thank you for your time and consideration.
2. Ellyn has been a driving force for Womens Mental Health since the program first started. Her care and concern for the clients goes above and beyond. She works hard and diligently to make sure all needs are met and the women are happy and healthy. She has a love for Odyssey that rivals most. She is appreciated and loved agency wide by both clients and staff. Thank you so much for all you do Ellyn!
Laura has such a positive attitude on the team and toward clients we work with. She goes out of her way to check on them and always chats for a few minutes in passing. Laura has years of invaluable experience working in the field of substance use and continues to work on her own recovery, often sharing with clients the power of AA and similar supports. She has a sense of humor that always makes me feel better when we are dealing with difficult situations. If I ever feel stuck, Laura takes the time to listen and give creative ideas to try with my group. I strongly believe she has become an integral part of the Sugarhouse team despite being one of our newest members. She cares deeply about our mission and empowering people to live a sober life while addressing underlying issues and trauma. She doesn't shy away from challenging conversations or holding clients accountable for their behaviors from a place of concern. I feel lucky to get to work with her!
I was moonlighting on grave shift at the Parents Program. Another staff member remained an additional hour to complete two house runs with me and observed me complete a third house run independently. During the following shift, the on-call staff member was not responding. Due to a safety concern, I contacted a staff member who was not assigned on call at that time. Although it was not her responsibility, she provided guidance and support regarding the safety concern during the night off hours. I am appreciative of her willingness to provide guidance and support during the safety concern despite it not being her assigned responsibility in the middle of the night at 0130.
Tiffany has been so helpful with our Mental Health Day Treatment clients. She regularly checks in with them at sober living to make sure they have what they need. She checks in with them when they miss treatment, helps them get to their appointments, helps the sugarhouse team with tasks needed for them that are difficult for us but she is able to in her position. She demonstrates true care and concern for them in the staff meetings she joins with Sugarhouse, with her emailed reports about conversations with them, and from reports from those clients about how much they like her and feel supported by her. She is always professional and collaborative with our Mental Health Team. I truly apprecaite all the work she puts in with our clients to help them not only stay in treatment but attend treatment and get the most out of their treatment they can not only through her collaboration with Sugarhouse but with her interactions with the clients. Thank you Tiffany!
1. It is my distinct honor to nominate Shift Lead Jeremy Jones for the Cornerstone Award. Since my first day, Jeremy has been more than just a supervisor; he has been a foundational pillar of our team and a constant source of professional excellence.
Exceptional Leadership and Mentorship
Jeremy is a master of his craft and has been my supervisor since I started. I can say with certainty that he has taught me everything I know. He holds himself and his team to exceptionally high standards, ensuring that we never settle for mediocrity. His training is never rushed; he takes the time to ensure every staff member is fully equipped to handle their responsibilities, fostering a culture of competence and confidence.
Dedication to Client Growth
Jeremy has a unique ability to meet our clients' needs with patience and precision. He is always available to answer their questions and is an expert at answering "bridge ups," helping clients navigate their progress and reach the next level of their potential. He is a strong leader who is willing to take on the most challenging situations personally, ensuring that every client has the support they need to grow.
Operational Excellence
If you are looking for Jeremy, you will find him moving. He is always busy, yet he manages the chaos with ease. He is the reason our shifts run so smoothly; he is always one step ahead, doing whatever is necessary to make the day easier for everyone else. His humility is evident in his "lead by example" philosophy—when we are short-staffed, he doesn’t hesitate to jump onto the floor and work right alongside us.
A Culture of Support and Respect
One of Jeremy’s greatest strengths is his ability to make every single member of the team feel important. He advocates for his staff relentlessly and always "has our back," which creates a profound sense of support. Whether it is providing constructive feedback or offering professional advice, Jeremy is always approachable. He doesn’t just manage; he mentors.
A True Role Model
The respect Jeremy commands is universal. Both the staff and the kids we serve look up to him as a role model. Jeremy Jones is the definition of a "Cornerstone"—the person who holds everything together, supports those around him, and ensures the entire structure is solid. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this recognition.
2. Jeremy has been absolutely killing it. He has taken initiative to reorganize and clean up the staff office, which is a herculean feat. He also organized the freezer, and it's now aesthetically pleasing and easy to find things. He is always willing to help anyone with anything, no matter the task. He is firm with boundaries and fair in his treatment of the kids. He is the most consistent staff member with the rules and expectations. He trains his staff well, and with enthusiasm. He is a natural, skilled leader who can be relied on completely for anything. I am so grateful he is on our team and that he shows up every day with his absolute best to serve our clients.
3. I'm honored to nominate my shift-lead Jeremy Jones. I have worked under Jeremy for 6 months now, and he is one of the best supervisors I have ever had. He always shows up for his team every single day, making sure our shift runs smoothly and his staff feel supported; checking in to make sure were doing okay and have any questions. From the day I started I felt like I could come to Jeremy with any questions and he would always be ready to help me out any way he can, to ensure that I feel safe and capable in doing my job. He gives his staff plenty of opportunities to learn new skills and also is incredibly humble; working as a floor staff with us when we are short staffed and simultaneously handling all his shift lead duties.
He has been with Odyssey for years and truly knows the program here at the Adolescent facility inside and out, and his knowledge is invaluable to the staff and clients. He models integrity every day and is an expert at de-escalation, maintaining healthy boundaries with clients, and approaching every situation - regardless of how intense it might be- with fairness and patience. Being a shift lead here is a very busy, stressful role that Jeremy handles with a certain kind of ease that only comes with his kind of experience and expertise. Jeremy plays such a crucial, impactful role here at Odyssey adolescent and the facility would not be the same without him and his leadership. He is the definition of a Cornerstone!
